Wrimos Planet

So I have decided.

And what I have decided is follows:

1.) I am too broke for nano-bribes this year, woe!

2.) I am, in fact, writing two novels.

-----a.) Novel One shall be a fairytale retelling of Beauty and the Beast, set in my Sidhe-Land* world.

-----b.) Novel Two shall be an urban fantasy focusing on shape-shifters. Cliche to the core, baby.

3.) I will try to write every day without fail. At least a sentence.**

4.) Frantic plotting shall now commence!

That is all.

* No that isn't the actual NAME of the place/setting.
** I say this every year and it amounts to very little.

#nano-ers! Avast!

Devil_Trigger/[info]d_evil_trigger and his unholy cohorts are putting together a #nw/NaNoWriMo Gift/Card exchange over at [info]nanogiftxchg. If you're interested, check it out.

Crazy Things I Want To Do: #nw Christmas Card Swap

#nanowrimo participants must submit two songs:

1.) One song representing how you see yourself now.

2.) One song representing how you would like to be. Or where you see yourself in ten years or . . . think of it as reality versus fantasy.

I know, I know. It's really hard to quantify one's self with one song. Volunteers only, as per usual. No you can't use a mash-up or an hour long mix. No deadline yet. My goal is at least twenty people. We'll split the songs into two lists and see what we come up with. If you want to use the same song for both lists because you're all perfect and whatnot, that's fine. If you have questions, ask.

*As for the second playlist project that some people never got back to me on - I'm writing up the lists that I did get and doling out the tunes. I'll pass them out soon. Honest. Is this the face of a cat who would lie to you? :D

Q: Will you accept classical music?
A: Yes, yes! There is no music that is not accepted here. Even *shudder* bubblegum.

Q: Dude, you totally wrote this post on the 6th! Why is it showing up now?
A: I forward-dated it to show up today, after I made some edits (added the on-going list, below the cut. If you have complaints, just leave a comment and I'll slap the whole post behind an LJ cut.

Q: Doesn't this imply everyone is dissatisfied with themselves?
A: I honestly didn't see it that way, I was thinking more along the lines of if you could change any one thing, what would you? What do you want to do in ten years? What's your most important goal? What is your perfect ideal. It was supposed to be a contrast between reality and fantasy but I guess I sort of worded it poorly.

More later . . .

That time of year again

Over there I’m reliantfc3

Despairing of Author Bios.

[info]engelein_writes may shoot me but I can't resist any longer.

curiosity is excited to be here for a sixth year, which could possibly be the best year ever, since it's NaNoWriMo's 10th anniversary and all. Yay NaNo!

When curiosity first heard of this wild and wonderous literary adventure, in 2003, much hopping and skipping commenced. This was the very thing curiosity had been looking for - other people to share the horrible pain of writing a 'real' novel with! Unfortunately, that year was very warm and a butterfly crossed curiosity's path. It was mid-December before our chagrined hero realized something was missing - a novel.

But that changed in 2004, when not one but TWO NaNovels were written. Both of them were perfectly dreadful and promptly locked away in a deep, dank, dungeon. These novels began to moulder, attracting a whole flock of butterflies that left their caterpillar-like plot-babies in curiosity's brain. They tickled dreadfully.

In 2005, curiosity wrote two more NaNovels! Thanks to the brand-new butterflies and fortune cookies, which is where plot twists come from. Oh, and Pocky was a huge help as well. Pocky is curiosity's NaNoTreat of choice. Butterflies like it, too.

2006 saw three novels written. curiosity was on a roll! Until the butterflies swarmed and flocked and congregated and there wasn't a flutter-free thought to be had for the entire rest of the year. Oops. Too many ideas!

In 2007, erring in the side of caution, curiosity only wrote a single NaNovel. But this one was special because it had a beginning, a middle, and an end! Truly, a milestone was reached. curiosity was eager to edit and perfect this precious trophy and the novel was tweaked all winter and spring.

Then a single - but oh so sparkly - butterfly came along and distracted the beleagured curiosity so nothing ever got finished. Whoops.

But now it's 2008 and only marvelous things can happen! Because it's already too cold for butterflies.

curiosity can be found at Webpen, an awesome free site that helps organize all the plots and characters and various twisty turns. Hooray!

Also at Wrimos.net, another good place. With a link library (which curiosity is in charge of), nanoer-blogs, story prompts. It's a NaNo-er utopia.

And of course, curiosity is in #nanowrimo damn near all 24/7 during the NaNo-ing season. Stop in and say 'hi'!.

I need to re-write it. Preferably in a way that makes it sound less like I do all my time smoking pot and eating shroom 'n' hash sammiches. Something simple, yet profound and witty. Something that truly reflects the sort of person I am.

"LULZ, BEWARZ UV DA CAT!!!1!!!!!11-1!!!!"

**Edit** This is my current author bio:

curiosity keeps busy in the NaNo-ing season by helping to moderate #nanowrimo, running the Link Library at Wrimos.Net and keeping track of potential plot details at Webpen, an awesome free site that helps organize and simplify the writing process.

2008 will make curiosity's sixth NaNoWriMo. (Or fifth, if you count the fact that not a single word was written in 2003.) Plans for two separate stories are in the works, to bring the total number of NaNovels curiosity has written up to ten.

Seriously, people.

We don't ask for much in the chatroom. Just read the FAQs and don't be an asshole. So when you come in, pull up a #nanochair and have a cuppa. We're a sarcastic, heathenish bunch but we're always willing to welcome decent folk.

Just come on in and have a conversation, you don't need to prove anything other than that you're literate and can comprehend English. And that you don't act like an asshole.

For your education I have provided links to the #nw FAQs, both the one regarding how the chatroom works and the one on how to use our bot, in my links list to the right. Feel free to take a gander and if you have any questions, you can ask them here or in the channel.

Happy NaNo-ing.

It's that time again.

Well NaNoWriMo is already up and running and has been for a few days. So if you wanted to register for this year's National Novel Writing Month - now's a good a time as any.

I checked the author count and as of right now there are 3,553 authors signed up with the site. At the end of last year there was over a hundred thousand. So somewhere between now and November fifteenth or so, over ninety thousand people are going to join the website and write their wrists off.

Something cool I noticed, while surfing around the site, is that while winners aren't getting free copies of our novels from Lulu.com, Create Space has kindly agreed to provide trade paperbacks of our novels for the winners. If that doesn't count as motivation then I'm not sure what will. A lifetime supply of Pepsi and pizza, maybe. Mmm . . . pizza!

Alright, that's all I got. Now it's time to work out some nano-bribes, a plot, and possibly a goal or something. I hear those help. See you cats and kittens later.

Checking In

Okay, so I missed Monday. Monday is my crazy busy school day, so I’m not sure if I’ll be able to post on Monday’s or not. The other questions: Did I write?

Well, sort of. I got a couple paragraphs anyway. I grabbed the next First Line challenge and started. The blank page is intimidating! But at least I started something. Now to finish it. Of course Nanowrimo is just around the corner, so I better find the habit again, one way or another. I’m still not totally sure what I’m going to do for that.

On a slightly random topic, this Saturday, the 27th is free museum day, brought to you by the Smithsonian. So, if you want to check out something you might not normally (or just want to not pay admission), check out the website:

Little Haters

This is pretty much totally where I am right now with this blog:

It’s been WAAAAAY too long since I updated anything. No real good reason, other then maybe I’m not writing as much. I mean yes, I’ve started school, but truthfully that shouldn’t be getting in my way. Maybe I should to look at “War of Art” again. Or maybe I should quit putting it off and just do what I’ve already committed myself to do. Resistance is only as strong as I let it be.

Today, this morning, I’ll write something. Doesn’t matter if it’s a lousy chapter or a pathetic excuse for a short story. My Muse needs the exercise. I will be back here on Monday telling how it went.

Man, that reminds me, I need icons. But first, PLAYLIST!

http://curiosity.livejournal.com/491442.html

Yes indeed! Calling all boys, girls, transgendered, genderfluid, furry, otherkin, therian, otakukin, homeschooled religious zealots, drama queens, sluts, playas, nerds, dorks, geeks, trekkies, cosplayers, college students, lovers, haters, fanfic writers, etc.

Anyone from #nw, really. Which really, there is no way I could list all the labels you people adorn yourselves with. I can't list all the labels I, myself, ascribe to. But that isn't really the point of this entry.

No, no my many and mighty amigos, I have called you forth for a new playlist idea. This one! The text of which, I have quoted:

#nanowrimo participants must submit two songs:

1.) One song representing how you see yourself now.

2.) One song representing how you would like to be.

I know, I know. It's really hard to quantify one's self with one song. Volunteers only, as per usual. No you can't use a mash-up or an hour long mix. No deadline yet. I have disabled comments on this post so you'll post your choices on that post, should you choose to participate. I know - that journal is invite only but I have made the entry public just for you. Yes, yes, I have. Such is my great and glorious caring for what you think, so long as it can be reduced to a song. :D

Thank you for your attention and we now return you to your regularly scheduled shenanigans.
